Another Step on Anjeed Kafanchan Solar’s Path to 100MW

Kafanchan, Kaduna State, Nigeria – 28 January 2016 – Anjeed Innova Group (AIG) is pleased to announce that Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading PLC (NBET) intends to purchase the power generated by the Anjeed Kafanchan Solar 100MW Project.

NBET has submitted a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) Letter of Intent (LOI) with Anjeed Kafanchan Solar LTD (AKS), a necessary step in the process to obtain a generation license for the 100MW Anjeed Kafanchan Solar Project. During this time of post-reform transition in Nigeria’s power sector from public sector to private sector, NBET is responsible for bulk purchase of power from power plants to resell to distribution companies.

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) regulates and monitors the electricity industry in Nigeria, and is responsible to issue licenses to Independent Power Projects (IPPs) like the Anjeed Kafanchan project. NBET confirmation of their commitment to enter into a PPA with Anjeed Kafanchan Solar for the 100MW solar power plant slated for construction in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, brings licensing closer.

The original plan for the Kafanchan project consisted of a 10MW first phase that would be expanded in several stages to 100MW capacity. Due to developments in government policy, the project was scaled up to a 50MW first phase, to be followed quickly by a second 100MW phase. The new design will provide clean, reliable, sustainable power for thousands of Nigerians much sooner but first requires new inspections and approvals.

NBET’s PPA LOI is the latest step toward completion of a state-of-the-art 100MW solar power generating facility to help meet Nigeria’s power needs. As stated in his annual address to AIG stakeholders and staff, and the people of Nigeria, AIG Chairmain, Colonel B.T. Kachim (rtd), stated, “This shift makes AKS a national asset, impacting thousands of Nigerians, improving their everyday lives and giving them a true sense that Nigeria will be great again.”

Anjeed Innova Group and Anjeed Kafanchan Solar are proud to be part of power sector growth and increasing access to electricity to the Nigerian people, and grateful for NBET’s continued commitment to the Project.
